Leadership Insights #3: Embracing Diversity and Hiring Well - A Path to Success

Dear Leaders,

As the days become longer, and summer unfolds its warmth, I find myself reflecting on the invaluable experiences we encounter and the cherished connections we make along our life's journey.

It is with immense gratitude that I write to you today, having spent time with my niece, Mary Claire. She recently returned from an incredible semester in Sydney for her studies, only to embark on a new adventure, leaving for Lisbon yesterday for a summer internship. During her brief time home we got to celebrate her 21st birthday early, hear stories about sky diving, bungee jumping oh and of course what she learned in school!

Spending time with Mary Claire and seeing her growth, as she embraced new perspectives, cultures, and people, has reinforced the notion that stepping out of our comfort zones and exposing ourselves to different experiences is vital for personal and professional development. It is through these encounters that we become more empathetic, open-minded, and adaptable individuals, enabling us to thrive in an ever-changing world.

This profound belief in the power of diverse experiences and cultures brings us to the core of this newsletter: the significance of hiring well. We cannot underestimate the impact of building a team that not only possesses the necessary skills and qualifications, but also embodies a rich tapestry of backgrounds and perspectives. The right candidate is not merely someone who checks all the boxes, but is someone who complements and aligns with the essence of your team.

We have great tools to help you hire well, ensuring the candidate is the right fit for the role. Reach out today if you'd like to meet for a consultation around your hiring process.

Cheering for you,

Erin Robison

To truly hire well, we must embark on a journey of self-discovery and team understanding. It is crucial to recognize our strengths, weaknesses, and values, as individuals and as a collective, to create an environment where everyone can thrive. By doing so, we ensure that our team remains resilient, innovative, and poised for success in the present and the future.

When we don't hire the right people, our organization may experience a myriad of challenges. From decreased productivity and morale to higher turnover rates, the consequences can be far-reaching. Misaligned values,
a lack of skills, or a poor cultural fit can disrupt team dynamics, hinder collaboration, and impede innovation. Additionally, a bad hire can drain valuable time and resources, diverting attention from more important strategic initiatives.

A big shout-out to Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets; this man absolutely fascinates me. There’s something about the way he behaves on and off the court that I deeply admire and respect. Watching him during interviews, I find myself completely engaged, absorbing every single word he says. Keep in mind, he speaks very few words, and that’s one of the things I respect so much about him as a player and a leader. I have become a basketball fan because of the Denver Nuggets. I admire how true...

I have not been out much over the last few weeks, other than to physical therapy appointments, but I am very grateful to live in such a beautiful place. Pictured above is an unfiltered sunset view from my bedroom which has become a sanctuary for healing, reading, and writing. I know that the renewed strength I desire for my knee and body in the future is contingent on my discipline and consistency today. PT and rest are vital. There are many days when I'm tempted to push ahead with activity...
